Inflammation of the ovaries: how to protect yourself from adnexitis

The inflammatory process that affects the fallopian tubes and ovaries is called adnexitis. Gynecologists note that the disease is quite common and more and more young women seek help with this problem. The main cause of the disease is infection: the process can develop for quite a long time, go into the chronic form, and in winter, at the very first hypothermia, the condition worsens dramatically.

Causes of adnexitis
When adnexitis inflammation occurs in the ovaries and fallopian tubes, but in some cases may spread to the uterus. According to medical statistics, every fourth woman in Ukraine suffers from adnexitis: more than half of cases of diseases turn into a chronic form.
The main reason for the development of adnexitis is infection: bacteria most often enter the uterus and then during unprotected sex.

Many microorganisms that provoke inflammatory processes can be found on the human body, its genitals, therefore it is not only a matter of venereal diseases. Also, infection and inflammation in the abdominal organs can trigger the development of adnexitis. And hypothermia is a factor that contributes to the development of the disease.
Symptoms and complications of adnexitis
The disease often spreads to both fallopian tubes, but the inflammatory process is more pronounced in one of them. Therefore, a woman may feel pain in only one part of the body: in this case, the lower abdomen on the left or right side. Also a woman bother:
discomfort during urination
slight increase in temperature (up to 37.5 degrees), light chills
long, heavy and painful menstruation
vaginal discharge
frequent headaches, nausea, general malaise.
If adnexitis is not treated, then in addition to the deterioration of general well-being and irritability, adhesions in the fallopian tubes occur, infertility develops, and pregnancy is often ectopic.

Prevention and treatment of adnexitis
The treatment of adnexitis should only deal with a doctor. Self-treatment can end sadly: a woman who has not passed the examination can not know the type of pathogen, which medications and in what dosage she needs. A “grandmother’s advice” to warm up the abdomen may result in an even greater spread of the inflammatory process, therefore, with pains below or on the side of the abdomen, you cannot put a heating pad. Also during the treatment of adnexitis is to refrain from intimate relationships.

It is necessary to strictly adhere to the recommendations of the gynecologist, to complete the course of treatment, otherwise the cured disease will go into an even deeper chronic form. During the period of treatment of adnexitis, it is important to observe intimate hygiene especially carefully and not to overcool.
To prevent adnexitis, remember about your health and use condoms, especially if you do not have a regular partner or you do not trust him due to any circumstances.

So you protect yourself from more serious genital infections and venereal diseases. Remember that birth control pills and IUDs protect only against unwanted pregnancy, and not against genital infections. A healthy lifestyle, proper diet and sleep and rest, good rest and physical activity will help strengthen the immune system and reduce the risk of infectious diseases – including adnexitis.
